The development of the Magadan region was discussed at the TASS platform within the framework of the WEF-2024

Within the framework of the Eastern Economic Forum - 2024, a presentation of the Magadan region was held on the platform of the TASS news agency. Elena Suranova, Deputy Chairman of the Government of Magadan region, and Yuri Grishan, Mayor of Magadan, spoke about the development of the region in various spheres.

Elena Suranova spoke about the industrial experience that has been accumulated so far in the Magadan region. Over 3.4 thousand tons of gold have been extracted from the subsoil throughout the history of Kolyma's development.

Gold is mined in all municipal districts of Magadan region from ore and placer mines. In 2023, two new gold mills were opened: at the Teutedjak deposit and the second phase of the Pavlik gold mining company. According to the deputy chairman of the regional government, the region will be able to produce a total of about 10 tons of gold.

"Also this year, a flotation building was opened at the Natalka mining and processing plant, which will increase the gold recovery rate, which will also yield an additional 1.5 tons of gold," Elena Suranova emphasized.

Despite sanctions, logistical difficulties and increased costs, the business continues to be attractive to investors.

This year, the Anabara Diamonds company acquired the Degdekan deposit. There is an intention to build a gold extraction plant with a capacity of up to 5 tons of gold per year. The volume of investments is about 24 billion rubles.

"Having analysed all the factors, we believe that this year the Magadan region will become the second largest producer of ore gold in Russia and will remain the undisputed leader in silver and placer gold production. As for the entire Far East, we will be the first in gold mining," said the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Magadan region.

Major projects are being implemented not only in the mining industry. In the past year, an Omega-Si fish oil plant was opened. The investor is the Kolyma-based company Tikhrybkom.

"The plant's annual capacity is up to 200 tons of reesterified triglycerides and 2,000 tons of refined fish oil. There are only four manufacturers in the world that produce such products. The Magadan plant is the fifth and so far the only one in Russia," emphasized Elena Suranova.

Another important project Elena Suranova called the construction of a new passenger terminal at Magadan Airport. The investor is Novaport Holding. Construction is being completed this year.

A modern building with a throughput capacity of 800 people per hour, with a comfortable baggage claim area, will be equipped with passenger boarding bridges, which are very important in our climatic conditions. In parallel, work is underway to create airport infrastructure - reconstruction of the apron and taxiways.

"This year we are building a power line to the Talaya sanatorium. The activities are financed by the regional budget, as well as by the Unified Presidential Grant. The sanatorium itself is planned to be opened next year’, - said the deputy chairman of the regional government.

Elena Suranova also touched upon the topic of tourism development.

She told about the creation of a tourist base on Zavyalova Island, where a scientific project on resettlement and breeding of musk oxen is being successfully implemented.

They talked about attracting personnel to the region and training specialists in Magadan region.

The emphasis, according to Elena Suranova, is directed at specialised secondary education. There are now 8 organizations of secondary vocational education in the region.

Kolyma actively participates in federal programs. We were included in the federal project ‘’Professionalitet‘’ supported by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. The Mining Industry industrial cluster is being created as part of the project. Major employers will be involved in the training of children.

"This year, students from 31 regions of the country came to study with us. 18 laboratories have been created for children in vocational schools and this year 9 more are being constructed at the expense of a Single Presidential subsidy. We rank third in the country in the employment rate of SVE (secondary vocational education) graduates at 88%. A high scholarship is paid - more than 22 thousand rubles," Elena Suranova noted.

This year a new school is being constructed in the Third Microdistrict of Magadan, which is being built as part of the national project "Education". A new school in Ola settlement, a kindergarten in Magadan and a kindergarten school in Snezhny settlement were commissioned.

It was also disclosed at the presentation that the ‘School of Courage’ will be opened, where will be created halls for sports, creativity, intellectual games - both for adults and children.

Improvement is underway - the parks "Mayak" and "Dyukcha" have been built, which are very popular with residents.
